Post created to capture food decisions and activity related decisions related to Camping 2007.

Check in time is 2pm. We can target to be there by 12.30pm. We should be able to get a few sites by that time.

Everyone takes care of their own lunch on Sat.

So Food sessions are :
Sat Dinner
Sun Breakfast
Sun Lunch

+ Fruits of course (esp for Sat afternoon)

On Sunday after checking out from KOA we can head out to the beach. And have Lunch on the beach.

Of course everything suggested above is open to discussion and changeable based on majority.

52 Comments:

  1. Getting campsites later is ok, but is it ok to use the facility like the swimming pool or other things before the checkin time. If allowed to use these things, folks can reach there earlier.

  2. Some additional info:

    1) Some of the attractions are paid. Check this link for more info. Mechanical bull and Mechanical Surfboard are only for people above 7.
Train ride is for 1$ per ride.
    Jumping Pillow is about 3$.
Bull/Surf board is about 5$ individually.

You can purchase a wristband (10$) which will allow you to go into these attractions without any charge. Or you can pay individually for them.

    2) Electric outlet is there on site.

    3) They are ok with you coming early and making use of facilities.

  3. Let me make the shubh-arambh for food suggestions.

We already talked over this during Spring picnic and suggestions for Sat Dinner were between Misal, Usal and Pav Bhaji.

I assume Sun bfast will be our standard stuff (bread, bagels, croissant, jam, butter)

Sun lunch can be thepalas (outsourced) or sandwiches. Sun lunch will be at beach. so need to figure out best food which can be dispersed with minimum mess at the beach. In my view Thepalas are less messier.

  4. Vote for Misal/usal for sat dinner & theplas for sun lunch.

  5. I vote for Pav Bhaji for Sat dinner & Thepala for Sun lunch.

  6. My vote for pav bhaji as well. 🙂

  7. I vote for Missal Pav/Ussal Pav for Sat dinner and Sandwiches on Sunday. As usual, I will continue to vote for underdogs 🙂

  8. My vote for pav bhaji for sat and thepla for sunday.

  9. Pav Bhaji is winning 3:2. Speak now or you will be doomed to eat what others want to eat. 🙂

  10. Before it’s too late, here goes the vote for
Pav Bhaji for Sat and sandwiches for Sun.

  11. Those who are suggesting sandwiches for Lunch think about the amount of space that you need to keep all the cut vegetables, butter, chatni, bread, etc. and plus the preparation time also. Since we probably wont have picnic benches at beach we will have to work with 2 CRV tables that we have :-). and plus lot of veggies to chop also.

Thepalas are more compact and almost zero preparation time on the site.

  12. Prashant just can’t wait to make Pav Bhaji for us ;-)- heard very good review from KV’s-am very much looking forward to it.

  13. Those who are suggesting Pavbhaji for dinner, think about the amount of veggies you have to chop, peel potatoes, puree tomatoes etc to make Pavbhaji 🙂 Misal/Usal is less than half time as compared to Pavbhaji !!!

  14. I knew that would come up as I was writing the other comment on thepalas. :-). Dimple did point that out to me yesterday.

PB will take time to make as such. And everyone please take that into account while casting your vote.

And of course eventually if PB gets chosen and we dont get volunteers to make it then Misal/Usal will have to take over.

  15. Vote for Misal/usal for sat dinner & theplas for sun lunch

  16. vote for pav bhaji – sat dinner
    Theplas-yogurt – Sun lunch

So will the pav bhaji or misal/usal be catered from out side ?

  17. Just a thought…

Instead of outsourcing Theplas, why not outsource PB and each of the family can get around 10 theplas from home, so in that way we can have variety of theplas too.

So that will also save time at the camp and everyone can enjoy more rather than spending time on cooking.

  18. i vote for pav bhaji for sat dinner and theplas for sunday lunch

  19. I vote for misal/usal for dinner and theplas for lunch.

  20. Usal/Misal for dinner and thepla for lunch

  21. So Thepala is decided for sure by overwhelming majority.

And for Sat Dinner Tally till now:

    Pav Bhaji: (6)
Prashant, Ameeta, Swati, Honey, Amisha, Nilam

    Usal/Misal : (4)
Bhavini, Rohit, Leena, xyz (urf Nirav)

“Multiply’s” vote is not counted since that will be double counting. :-). Nice try 😉

  22. PavBhaji for Sat
    Thepla for Sun

  23. Usal for Sat
    Thepla for Sun

  24. Pav Bhaji -Sat Dinner
    Theplas-Sunday Lunch….
Outsource PB from Outside can try- Shirley/Milan.
Surprisingly our alltime favorite Taco Dinner is not an option this time at all…:-)

  25. Pav Bhaji -Lunch Dinner and if possible Breakfast too 🙂

  26. Pav Bhaji-Saturday dinner.
    Thepla-Sunday Lunch.

  27. Usal – Saturday dinner.
    Thepla – Sunday Lunch.

  28. I like misal more than pavbhaji, so misal is my choice for sat dinner.

  29. Misal/Usal on Sat and Thepla on Sunday

  30. Latest Tally 🙂 is :

    Pav Bhaji (10):
Prashant, Ameeta, Swati, Honey, Amisha, Nilam, Amit, Sneha, Smita, Mita

    Usal/Misal (6):
Bhavini, Rohit, Leena, xyz (urf Nirav), Dimple, Rupesh

Jash is obviously not counted. 🙂

  31. That’s unfair – I should be allowed to vote if you are going to charge me for food 🙂

  32. Kairavi’s vote cancels out Jash’s vote. 🙂

Today evening I am going to make her believe in “East or West, Pav Bhaji is the Best”. 🙂

  33. 4 more votes for Pav Bhaji and Thepla — BAKS 🙂

  34. I will pay for 10 people if you count 10 votes from me for Usal/Misal 🙂

  35. Dimple had another idea that 1-2 people can make Misal/Usal instead of Pav-Bhaji. So PB for 75% and MU for 25%. Everyone will be happy then.

Have not had the time to do inquiries regarding outsourcing of PB/MU. If someone has the time and the contacts can you do that?

I dont see a big problem with preparing it at home also.

  36. Usal/Misal for Sat Dinner
    Theplas for Sun lunch

  37. I can ask at Milan restaurant in Milpitas for pav-bhaji. I haven’t tasted it in Milan though. Has anybody tried.

  38. I am sure Prashant has tried PavBhaji from Milan. So far haven’t come across any place who prepares nice PB compare to any KV folk.
Actually my idea was more of 50-50. Since base for PB & Usal is same – Pav. In that case instead of 6 people making PB. We can have 3 people making PB and 3 Usal or 4-2. That way both party is happy & neutrals get to enjoy both. 😉

  39. FYI, I called Milan.
They said for 60 people they will charge $90.
Also suggested if pav bhaji is the only thing for dinner, then order for 80 people and they will charge around $120.
    Pav costs extra.

  40. 4 more votes for Pav Bhaji and Thepla

  41. Carrying outsourced PB would be a thing to consider. It would need a huge container and a huge cooler. Cannot keep it without cooler as it would be made previous night and will be eaten for the next night dinner. If folks make at home then they can bring in their own personal cooler.

  42. PB if outsourced there are chances of it getting spoiled towards the end of the day & if the day is hot i am not sure how much help we will get from coolers .
    My Opt would be
Sandwich for sat Dinner (easy to store & make )or
Usal/Misal (can boil the beans at home & vagarofy at the site )
    Theplas for sun Lunch

  43. WE have 2 options regarding the beach.

    a) Goto Beach on Sunday at noon after wrapping up at campsite.

    b) Goto Beach first on Saturday at around 11am before going to KOA. This means your first stop after starting from home will be the beach. In this case, there will be SAT lunch instead of SUN lunch. On Sunday people can go home directly from campsite.

I personally prefer option (a) since I have my doubts as to how many people will turn up for beach time on Sat before camping. But we can go with whatever the majority wants.

  44. I vote for option “a”.

  45. option “a”

  46. Like option “b”.

  47. Vote for option “a”

  48. PavBhaji or Usal/Misal – To be or not to be???

  49. Option “a”

  50. Option “a”
