So any cricket related thought, input it here.

20 million Australians must be rooting for their country but rest assured the remainder 99.5% of the world (6 billion people) are rooting for the underdog – The Lankans. 🙂

  1. NZ did well considering that they have population of about 4-5 million only. So the cricket pool of talent is less. People are more into rugby there.

This was their 5th semi-final. Form-wise, the 1992 world cup was really theirs, until Pakistan spoiled their party in the semis.

  2. For the 1983 Prudential Cup….One of our match against Zimbabwe…India were 17 for 6, there in comes Kapil Dev and knocks 175 not out. Kapil Dev’s 175 contained 16×4, 6×6 in 138 balls.

The tragedy is, a spot media strike in Britain saw not a single moment of Kapil Dev’s bat-in-hand 175 captured on film, as the Haryana hurricane swept Tunbridge Wells.

Imagine Kapil himself was unable to see his performance again. With that win in hand we went to win the world cup defeating the defending champions West Indies. That was the turning match for India…

  3. Among the Asian neighbours,

India has reached the Finals 2 times (1983, 2003) and converted it once to victory (1983)

Pakistan has reached the finals 2 times (1992, 1999( and converted it once to victory (1992)

SL has now reached finals 2 times (1996, 2007) and has converted it once (1996) with 2007 still being open.

  4. With their defeat of South Africa in the semi-final, Australia became the first team to complete fifty wins in the World Cup (combined).

  5. Australia is one team that has not lost a single match in the World cup from 1999…An amazing feat.

  6. Here is a nice summary article of all the Finals till now

  7. This is first Finals matchup which has been played before (SL-Aus was played in 1996 and SL won it). No other matchups have been repeated in the WC finals till now.
