Venue for Spring Picnic 2007

KV Spring Picnic 2007

Time to search for a venue for Spring Picnic 2007.

Suggestions have been coming in for various quarters about venues and things to do during spring picnic and this post is meant to capture those inputs and let the community discuss it out. We will go with whatever the majority wants regarding venue, food and things to do.

Here is reference to post on Spring Picnic 2006 which includes some venues which can be considered for 2007.

One thing regarding Spring Picnic is that each year we like to do the picnic at a new location. Hence any of the old venues that we already did Spring Picnic at are out of the race.

2003 –> Vasona Park, Los Gatos
2004 –> Vasona Park, Los Gatos
2005 –> Kelly Park, San Jose
2006 –> Oak Meadows Park, Los Gatos
2007 –> ???

  1. Del Valle, Livermore

  2. Mita suggested “Kennedy Park” in Hayward. It has pony ride, train ride, merry-go-round, etc.

  3. Cuesta Park in Mountain View which was also suggested last year is one of the front-runners this year. 🙂

Amenities include: BBQ facilities, bocce ball court, children’s playground, horseshoe area, passive areas, picnic areas, tennis courts, volleyball court, and rest rooms. Its has nice biking trails. It has lot of trees also for shade.

Dogs are allowed there on leashes and we will need to be careful of those. We will need some people to reserve 2 picnic benches on Sat morning.

  4. Just to capture info regarding this park – Tilden regional park in berkeley.

  5. Tilden Park – Berkeley

Pony ride is closed for infrastructure repairs to the facility.

  6. Me and Dimple had taken Kairavi to Tilden Park last year. Not that impressive. It has a man made beach besides the lake and a carousel. But not worth driving all the way to Berkeley for this park.

  7. Oh ok Bhavini has already suggested Tilden Park.

  8. – Tilden park has various facility which are nice but all spreaded out. One need to drive for each one of them.

  9. Ortega Park – Water Play area will be working in May

    Ed Levin County Park

  10. Houge Park in San Jose has nice play structure for Kids. Its similar to Cuesta Park play structure but maybe just a bit better. (It has a double-rider each side see-saw too !!!)

Picnic benches are situated close to play structure and there are some trails for biking/skating/etc.

Its a smaller park than Cuesta park as such.

Here are some photos from Kairavi’s evening at Houge Park.
Also here is another link for Houge Park.

  11. Adults need not get worried about so much focus on play structures and kids activities. 🙂

There will be plenty of adult activities too including volleyball, bocce ball, frisbee, biking and a KV Sports Day (suggested by Nitul Haria) on the same day.

To round off the day, what better thing than to have a “quick” round of teen-patti at some volunteer’s place. 🙂

So all in all it should be a FUN day for kids and adults alike.

  12. Sports Day sounds fun. Is nitul going to organize some out door games?
We can have water balloon game.

  13. Murdock Park (also known portal park, it is behind the portal elemenary school) in San jose is a big park with 2 play structure, swings, bbq grill, picnic benches etc.

  14. Prashant, U seem to have a long list of TODO items on a single day 🙂 May be sports day should be planned as a seperate event (am assuming you are talking abt running, lemon/spoon, sack race etc, slow cycle as a sports day event). Just my 2 cents.

  15. Maybe not all of them but at least some of them. Its hard to get this big of a group together outdoors often and so while we are at it might as well play some interesting games.

  16. Folks, the discussion seems to have died down. Is the venue finalized?

  17. We recently visited Ed Levin County Park in Milpitas and found that park to be a good contender for the Spring Picnic. A small lake, good hiking trails, vast areas of green, play structure, restrooms, cute picnic benches (with individual shade), unexposed to KV, etc.

However there is a 5$ parking fee here. I will post photos soon.

So top 2 contenders for Spring Picnic are :
    A) Cuesta Park, Mountain View
    B) Ed Levin County Park, Milpitas

Both these parks seem good. If we go with one of them this year then next year we can go with the other one. Any positive/negative comments on above 2 parks ???

  18. FYI, Ed Levin Park is the venue for Spring Picnic 2007.
