A car is almost like a second home (for some of us). Since we rely on a car so much here in the US. Rushing from one event to another. 🙂
Now our usual home has got all things that we need from time to time. But when we are in the car and away from our home sometimes we feel the need for certain little things and then we think “It would have been nice if this item was in my car”.
This post attempts to capture some of those little often needed things which can be stored in a car and which will be useful from time to time. Kind of like a handy tool kit which wont occupy much space.
Now now stop laughing and start writing 🙂
Here is my list :
1) 2-3 garbage bags : you never know when these will prove to be useful
2) Some mints : hey, nice to have some mints to pop into your mouth after eating those onions at an indian restaurant.
I have more things in my list but would give others a chance to post it first. 🙂
Maps 🙂
Paper Towel/Paper Napkins
Pen
some non perishable food items
CDs/casettes
lotion (specially in winter)
first aid kit
Chauffer….:-)
Few quarters coins (some places for paid parking)
Mat (unplanned beach or park halts)
Jackets, throws (to be comfortable during weather changes, example evenings in SF are chill 24/7)
Torch and jumpstart, good idea too.
Water, always on the go
Sunscreen and cap.
This plus all the above…now where to keep all this handy? hmm..
cars that have a little pouch in front of every seat to accomodate the traveler’s thingies 🙂
Here are some more from my list:
1) a small tennis ball / frisbee : you never know when you will stop by a park and these things ensure you will have a good time there.
2) ziplock bags : you could be at a party where they could be giving away leftover food. 🙂 (no laughing here)
3) Saridon/Band-Aid: A full fledged first aid kit may be too much to ask for. Too much outdoors sun can make your head heavy.
4) 3-4 Plastic bags : I know mentioned garbage bags earlier but those are too big to be able to carry small things. Can also be useful if the kid vomits.
5) Some old newspapers : Can come in variety of use.
6) 1-2 Magazines : Your kid could go off to sleep in the car and your better half wants to go inside a store. In that case you will have to stay behind in the car and during that time a magazine or two could come in handy.
Chauffers and Jackets are too big to be considered in a list of handy things. :-). However as Honey mentioned a warm throw can be in the car if the weather changes suddenly.
CDs are standard in any car and no special need for remembering to take them. :-). However if you are talking about some “Dance music” in case the urge to dance arises at someone’s place then its a different thing. 🙂
My list will be “PRASHANT”. Since Prashant has such a detail “nice to have list”, I don’t have to worry much when we are on the road. 😉
Other items Prashant would like to have in car … just in case … Games(Pictionary, Taboo, etc), cricket bat & ball, Measuring Tap, Cones
Heh Heh… Some of the things that Dimple mentions are just for picnics at parks or get-togethers at someone’s place. I am talking about a general Handy Kit.
Dimple is right about the measuring tape. But I mean the IKEA measuring tape made of paper since that hardly occupies any space.
I say, have a pillow and a blanket. Save all your money that you would put down the drain buying a home and get yourself a Murcielago or an Enzo. You’ll save on property tax too. Only if Urmi would understand.
If you are visting national parks (especially in Utah/Arizona) or camping at Grand Canyon – you may want to toilet rolls with you 🙂
Oops typos
you may want to carry toilet rolls with you
GPS: Just go around where ever you want without getting lost anywhere
Invertor(3 pin plug-point): So that i can charge my cellphone, laptop
Laser Detector: So that we can speed w/o getting ticket.
Laptop or DVD player in the car for long drives with kids.
Seems like most of the things here won’t be required always in the car. I normally carry food items, water on the go everytime.
1) A couple of granola bars or power bars are very helpful in the situation that you suddenly feel hungry. They dont perish easily too.
2) I keep handy a phone number list also. I have one in my wallet but i keep one in the glove compt. also.
3) Honey mentioned a Mat for unplanned beach or park stops. Instead you can keep a sunshade in the car which doubles as a mat as well when needed.
– A fully pressurized spare tire.
– A car emergency kit (with basic tools, jumper cables).
– If you don’t have a navigation system, download your favorite maps client on your cellphone in case you want to find the nearest Costco/cash machine/Indian restaurant away from home.
