A fun hike to Deer Hollow Farm

Our “Jatra #2” / “Mission# 2” involved hike to Deer Hollow Farm in Rancho San Antonio in Cupertino.

The parking lot was already full by the time I drove in at around 9.20 am. I was surprised to see so many cars around. People were flying model airplanes and this seems to be a popular place to do that. I was like “Oh-Oh because of parking situation maybe we wont be able to start on time”.

I found a parking though and started chatting with Jeinay/Honey who were in the same parking area. Within 5 mins a huge contingent of Kutchis was walking down a hill towards us. They had parked elsewhere and had walked down to the start of hike area. That meant that most kutchis were well in the window of 9.15am – 9.30am and that was very very impressive :-). It shows that KVites like to hike and early mornings are not a problem for them. Everyone who had expressed interest actually showed up and Sanket/Megha/Parents gave everyone a surprise by coming from San Carlos for the hike. Sanket and Megha brought the youngest member of the hike – “Ananya”.

We started dot on time 9.30am. The only families who were not there were the Harias, Viras and MNM who were on their way. Kids had brought scooters and bicycles and everyone had a fun time while going to the farm. Small Kids were motivated by the reward of seeing some animals at the end of the hike.

We reached the farm by 10.15am. Kids had a good time watching the animals and vice-versa. The Harias and Viras caught up with the rest of the group at the farm. And then there was the usually “halla-gulla” right besides the sign which said “Quiet please.” 🙂

There was a nice shed area with plenty of picnic tables. We opened our nashta boxes there and everyone remembered their childhood lesson of Sharing and dutifully complied. The shed area has a stage area also. Overall it was a nice surrounding and a good start to the Sunday morning.

MNM came a bit late and actually met folks on the way back. Then they decided to head back as well.

Good to know the enthu for hikes within KV janta. Suggestions for “Jatra-3″/”Mission-3” are now open…. 🙂
