Almost 75% of the postal mail that we get is Junk Mail and we have to tear it up. I have had it with Junk mail and have taken a few steps to try and stop it.
After searching the internet for “How to stop Junk Mail” I found some good articles.
Here is one of them.
I acted on the first 2 points and got my name registered on the Direct Marketer’s Association website . Here is the direct link . I filled out the online version. There is a charge of 1$. Certain bulk mailers check against this list and will not send mail to you if your name is present on this list.
Next I entered my name on the http://www.optoutprescreen.com/. This is a website operated by the 4 major credit bureus. By entering information here you can stop receiving those pre-approved credit card offers. You will need to give your SS# and birthdate here for verification purposes. However this service is free.
I will wait a couple of months and report back on how successful my effort has been.
I also plan to call up a few companies (exisiting credit card companies, mortgage company, etc) and request them not to share my information. Almost 40% of the mail is for refinancing existing mortgage loan.
Lets see how sucessful I am in my attempt to reduce junk mail……
You can also call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (567-8688) to stop pre-approved credit cards mails.
