Some of us have a good memory with respect to certain things whereas our memory is not so powerful in certain other categories.
Now there may a scientific reason (genes?) behind how does the memory act more powerfully in some cases then others. For example Time had an article – Do I Know You? on how some people have difficulty in remembering faces and in that study they narrowed it down to some particular gene. (So the next time that the wives start hammering the hubbies for failing to do something the hubbies can take the excuse of “Its not me !! Its my genes” . 🙂 )
For example, I have a hard time remembering shopping deals, various relations of relatives to me :-), Kutchi people’s villages, Directions, etc. Whereas i have a good memory with respect to cricket scores, remembering names of really old lost friends, and a few more things that I dont remember right now :-).
What about you? In which categories does your memory support you and where does it fail you ?
Hmm…Prashant my good memory seems to have most of the those things that fall into your bad memory category. And yes my bad memory has hard time remembering cricket scores for sure. It’s vice versa 🙂
I usually remember people’s faces (not always names).
My father also remembers people’s faces very well. He recognizes people from his high school time even though they did not see for a long long time.
LAst year when we had gone to India- Me n my parents had gone to Kutch. While stoppping @ a village – pratpur for off-laoding a fellow traveller, One guy from that village came and recognized my dad by his face and then called out his name (my dad could not recognize him). That guy had studied with my dad and was seeing him after 45 years or so… Was amazing – I could not understand how a person can recognize another person after 45 years, cuz in 45 years a person’s “hulia” changes dramatically…
Typo – Not 45 years – 55 years
I had gone shopping with my mother-in-law. We were suppose to pick up the item after few days. My ma-in-law kept the receipt with her. And after few days when she went to pick it up, she realized that she had lost the receipt and the shopkeeper would not give it otherwise. She called me up from there wondering what to do. I gave her the receipt # to try if that worked. And… it worked.
It just happened that when I looked at the # on the day of shopping, it stayed in my memory.
BTW…that was 16 years ago. I am sure it won’t happen again.
I will have to wait for almost another 35 years to repeat the feat of Bhavesh’s Dad’s friend. My memory right now is so bad. I wonder how will I be in 35 years. Good thing that there are so many photos and videos now a days. I will have to keep refreshing my memory by watching these again and again. 🙂
Prashant,
Sounds like a plan, however who will remind you to watch the photos again and again to refresh your memory …. 😉 😉
Prashant will have keep pressing F5…of his memory…
To press F5 (Refresh button) you have to remember to press F5…. 😕 :-/
