Diwali Practice Sessions: A Journey as rewarding as the final destination

The Diwali Practice sessions are ON again for various programs. The motivation for each participant would be different. For me, the motivation is that the journey towards the final event is as exciting and fun-filled as the final performance itself.

Here are some of my reasons:

a) It gives me a chance to socialize and develop new friends. In case of already known people, it gives me a chance to strengthen the friendship bonds. I had written earlier about “Who will you meet in 2006?“. The diwali practice sessions are a virtual fast-track in developing new friendships and help me fulfill my goal of cultivating new friends each year :-).

b) It gives me a different insight into other people’s talents which otherwise may not be obvious by just speaking with them at a normal get-together. In the drama group we have several new talents this year which you will see during the Diwali party.

c) Gives me something else to do other than the usual stuff on a weekend. Life would be boring without such interesting interruptions.

d) Bouncing creative ideas and listening to others’ ideas and eventually negiotiating it down to whatever is best for the group is another good exercise for the brain. Reinforces the “Team” concept. Go Drama Team !!! 🙂

e) All that tomfoolery and haansi-majak during the sessions and the nashta-paani after the sessions would provide for good memories in the later part of my years or whenever we meet after a long gap.

f) Somehow i missed out on all these extra-curricular activities during student life in India and maybe that is another reason to play catch-up now. Of course it helps that eveyone in the kutchi group is so helpful and pleasant to work with.

g) The sense of accomplishment on THE DAY once the event is over is great indeed. Its like a project or an exam getting over. Of course there were lot of bumps and hardships on the way but the mental feeling is pretty satisfying.
