OCI, PIO, or Visa for kids

Does anyone have OCI or PIO card for their kids to travel to India? Any advice/suggestions?

Overseas citizenship for India (OCI) holds good forever and takes about 3 to 4 months for processing.
Ours didn’t go through ’cause minors whose both parents are Indian Nationals are not eligible. is it so? any ideas?

Person of Indian origin (PIO) takes about 1 month to be done and will hold good for about 15 years I guess .

Visas will not be required as long as one has OCI or PIO card. These seem to be of a better value of time and money if there are a few months in hands to process it. Visa application is a good choice otherwise.

  1. We have PIO for Kairavi. It came withnin 15 days. Hardly any paper work to be done. Just mailed form, photo, birth cerificate & fee.

  2. Minors whose both parents are Indian Nationals are eligible for OCI as thats the purpose of OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India), to allow Foreign citizens to gain Indian Citizenship.

Once you have the PIO card for kids, you can pay additional $25 to get the OCI card.

We received Saahas’s PIO card within a week and OCI card takes about 3 months.

  3. FYI
learnt that minors of both parents with Indian citizenship are not eligible for OCI.

If one of the parents does not have Indian citizenship (or when that minor turns 18 years+) will he/she be eligible for OCI.

    Thanks for help folks.
