KOA Camping: A Fun experience

2 weeks back we had gone camping to KOA Kampground in Petaluma. KOA is a chain across the US offering a kind of luxurious camping experience. The closest ones to the bay area are in Petaluma, Santa Cruz and Stockton.

This was our first camping with KOA and we had always heard good things about it. Since KV has many camping enthusiasts and many families with kids I decided to pen down some words in favor of KOA – Petaluma.

They have lodge cabins as well tent camping sites. Tent camping sites cost about 42$ for a site. This includes cost for 2 adults and 1 car. Each additional adult is about 7$ extra. Each site can have a max of 6 adults and 1 car. Any additional cars need to be parked in the parking lot some distance away. (However we had parked one additional car on site itself and no one raised any objection 🙂 ).

KOA has structured activities throughout the day. Their schedule for the weekend includes “Water slide time”, “Free Cotton Candy time”, “Petting zoo time” , “Animal show time”, “Hay ride time”, “Face painting time” , “Ice cream social”, etc. So there is always something to do at any point of the day. They also had a swimming pool which was very useful since it was a hot day.

They had tall sprinklers in the group camping area which we made use of to make each other wet.

This KOA had a common area called the Kampers Kitchen which was like a open gazebo containing 4 sinks and 4 electric stoves. So if you dont have a camping burner you can just go here and cook your food. They even have some plastic tables and chairs there.

The kids play structure was also nice. And adults were having fun there also. In the evening they had an animal show where a trainer showed her animals like snake, porcupine, birds, and more.

Overall it was a nice trip especially for Kairavi. Kids will definitely have more fun camping at KOA. Its a nice change for the adults too.

We now look forward to visiting the other KOAs in the area whenever we have some free time. 🙂

  1. I would recommend KOA Kampgrounds too. Prashant has already given a lot of details and we should surely plan the next group camping over there. For the past few years we have camped at KOA sites with the Kutchi gang in Boston. We always booked log cabins and have tons of good memories. No complaints on any sites so far.
