Last weekend ICC (India Cash & Carry) had put limits on dal – only one packet per type per family…. Price increase is recent ??
I think the reason is one of the exporter has stop supplying the product.
Saying of “Ghar ka shrikhand Dal baraabar” (Jain version) no longer true now !!!
Now whenever we goto someone’s place, making dal will be as good as making something luxurious. 😉

Well I went to nilgiris and the price of dal was around $12 for 400 gms…quite exorbitant!
Hardly 5-6 packets of Urad dal were seen on Racks in Cash n Carry…I dont think they have additional stock….
