This message post is to gather some ideas for the Kutchi Idol event on May 13. Since we have some past experience now from the first Idol event, we should improve upon some things. Pitch in with your ideas for a creative event.
Some of my ideas were :
1) Educational demo a few mins before the event to people who are new to the
karaoke thing so that they know what to expect.
2) Time limit of 2.5 – 3 mins for a song.
3) More audience commentary on the singer.
4) Housie (if Manish and Neelam are available)
5) I also propose a Fun-N-Fair kind of booths (2) for 30-45 mins or so where people can play some “gambling” type games. For example blackjack, throw the dice, etc.
The prices for all games could be raffle tickets. Can be one grand prize at end drawn by raffle tickets. More the raffle tickets you have more chances of winning. 🙂
6) Newer songs this time including latest ones.
Somethings which I am not sure about:
1) Event time : Should it be in morning, after lunch, before dinner or after dinner?
If before dinner (6pm), then we can order pizza for everyone.
Any other ideas to have a great Kutchi Idol event?
My 2 cents will be..
1, 2, 3, 6) Sure
5) Let’s keep it simple & not mix up with multiple things. So that all enthusiastic KV singers can participate in main attraction of the evening & we don’t have to juggle with time crunch.
*) Event Time – After dinner,8 to 11 or similar.
*) Another suggestion would be – instead of drawing names, have first come first sign up sheet. So that timely arrivers get awarded for their efforts to maintain event schedule. 🙂
Last time also it took 2 or so hours to complete the singing event (everyone participated at that time). So if planning to meet after dinner then only Kutchi Idol is enough. If plan is to meet before dinner and have dinner together then probably can squeeze in at the most one game/item.
Also, only the Kutchi Idol is going to be the main theme of the night then people who are not interested in singing might drop out.
Meeting at 6.00 with Pizza as dinner sounds good. Let’s keep kutchi idol with one game before kutci idol (for the early birds) as we did last time. Lot of folks were not there during the first kutchi idol – so maybe we will once again have enough participants to keep us busy for an entire evening! We can have another games night seperately as we did couple of years ago at Leena’s place.
If dinner is not kept, then janta will arrive late as they try to arrange for their dinner. So keeping pizza dinner will allow us to start a bit early (6pm) otherwise we are looking at a start time of 8.30 or so.
It will be nice to have at least one dedicated game for kids for 15-20 mins or so.
Pizza and Kutchi Idol is just perfect. I agree on keeping one game for kids.
Meeting before dinner seems to be a better option.
For kids we can play musical chairs (with karaoke if u want to keep with the theme of the night :-)).
How about maiking it a costume/theme party this time as well – hawaiin or other ideas ??
Thanks Komal for the updated logo for Idol. :-). Now how about a logo for kutchvalley too. ;-).
If there are no other themes suggested then Hawaiian theme seems good. We will need to get the hawaiian garlands for everyone (“Lei”). 🙂
I believe someone here can make a Hawaiian punch also.
Who is going to do the Hula Dance ?
Dimple does the “Hula-Hoop” well if that counts. 🙂
Why dont we just bring a “hula-hoop” and make everyone do the Hula-Hoop as a substitute for the actual Hawaiian Hula.
Lets have a hula hoop competition.
Cannot ignore a request from a junior KV member. :-). So hula-hoop competition is ON.
So among the ideas floated the following seem good:
1) We will have a Hawaiian theme.
2) Hula-Hoop Competition.
3) Musical chairs for kids.
4) 30 mins of “singing-practice” time before the actual start of events. So those who want to get used to the system or just sing for the fun of it in a mostly empty room can come in at 5.30pm.
One other important idea that we will use is:
5) Those who indicate the song that they are going to sing on this message post will be given preference for singing. The reason being that we hope that this indicates that the person is going to go thru the song at least once before the event. 🙂

Pick the one which you are going to sing. You are free to choose one with a partner also. (duet). Duets will get more “microphone” time. 🙂
