Brief Review: This movie totally defied my expectations. I assumed that Oliver Stone would rip the former president apart in this bio-pic released in an election year. However, it turned out to be totally different and pleasantly so.
This movie is about George W. Bush, the person rather than the president. The movie refelcts on him as a member of an esteemed family of high achievers who fails at almost everything he tries. It portrays him as a person trying to gain approval, if not a pat on the back, from his parents for his ventures however, he comes up short almost everytime. The movie delves into the history of Bush and how it may have impacted the decisions he made during his presidency.
The movie is succint, it goes back and forth between his presidency and his history. The acting is really strong with Josh Brolin and James Cromwell leading the pack as Bush Jr and Sr, respectively.
Perhaps, the reason why this movie didn't have a strong run is that it portrayed W. as a human being rather than the monster everyone would have liked him to see due to the frustration people experienced with his administration.
