  1. One of the basic (and cheap) thing now a days is to buy a wooden stick from Home Depot, cut it to preferred length, and put it in your window railing and backyard yard door when you go out. So that it is not possible at all to open the window or backyard door from outside without breaking it.

  2. Timer based plugs are available on Amazon which will automatically turn on a lamp on your specified time.

  6. For identity theft protection, ensure that you have placed a freeze on your credit report. This way the hacker / thief does cannot open credit lines on your name despite having your personal information

    Also ensure that those balance transfers / cash advance checks (that the credit card company sends you) are securely shredded so that they cannot go in the hands of miscreants

  7. 1. Setup Post office alerts for change of address.
    2. Put a freeze on kids accounts as the thief may open accounts in kids name.
    3. Cover up the peep hole as the thief can use a reverse peep hole to look inside the house.
    4. Do not keep any car registration/insurance cards in the car. take pictures and keep them on the phone. Cops accept pictures on the phone. Erase home address on any paper in the car.
    5. Form a Whatsapp neighbor group, and when working from home ask neighbors to take turns to step out and walk around the house. if any unusual car or person take pictures.
