We’ve been doing May long weekend camping for the last few years now.
And December is here which means campground for 2015 needs to be booked soon for a group of our capacity 🙂
Lot of the group campgrounds were already booked during thanksgiving weekend, so we may have to go with individual campsites this year.
Nevertheless the search for group campsite continues.
Would love suggestions for campgrounds. If you think one of the past one’s could be repeated then appreciate that as well.
Here is a list of our past camping locations –
2002: Bodega Bay
2003: Olema Ranch
2004: Lake Francis RV Resort
2005: Folsom Lake SRA
2006: Lake Don Pedro
2007: KOA Santa Cruz
2008: Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park
2009: San Mateo Memorial County Park
2010: Calaveras Big Trees State Park
2011: Lopez lake
2012: Caswell Memorial Park
2013: MCCONELL SRA
2014: Camanche Recreation
Following were on top during last year’s research and hence putting it here.
1. Turlock Lake
They were in the process of becoming site specific reservation last year and were not accepting reservations in Dec.
But now they seem to be all set.
2. Woodson Bridge
A group campsite of 40 people is available for May long weekend, so mix and match of group and individual sites can be done.
Any inputs/suggestions for the above two ??
And few that have come in the radar this year are (yet to do detailed comparisons, but putting it here for future reference as well 🙂 )-
1. Coyote Lake
This one is little too close to home 🙂 but as a campsite seems good.
3. Orchard Springs
Long Ravine above and couple more that seemed to be managed by same company..
4. Arroyo Seco
Group campsite already booked for May long weekend 🙁
Turlock Lake seems fine. Except for the restroom state mentioned in few comments. But overall the reviews are positive and good. I don’t think KV is that fussy anyway. Has anyone from KV been to Turlock Lake? I will also ask around.
Woodson Bridge is too far.
Coyote Lake seems to have too strict rangers. Will not work for a large noisy group like KV. 🙂
I have been to Arroyo Seco and it had one of the best diving spots in the river to have fun in. Something to consider for future.
If a repeat is needed, then Pfeiffer Big Sur Park can be considered. But too late for coming year.
KOA Cloverdale is another option for the future too. Or Camping#2 for 2015 in Aug :-).
Samuel Taylor Park near SF is another one to consider for future or for second camping.
I am sure there is a place to look for people’s review for people’s comments. If there is one let me know and I will help u guys in looking for the reviews so the work is divided. I am not sure Bhavini and Prashant if u guys need more sites or look for reviews to choose for the best ones amongst what we have.
If this year is going to cold winter lets not consider near SF for the memorial weekend.
Thanks Prashant for the follow up. @ Neelam – Am not aware of any campground review site. Yelp is the best place for reviews and sometimes google also gives reviews. If you personally know of anyone who has been to these locations then get their inputs.
Also since most places are site specific reservations, am personally still looking for a jackpot w.r.t group campsite :-). Last year we had almost decided on woodside and found Camanche. Group campsite has lot of advantages over individual family campsites. Weather is out of our control but agree that SF for May long weekend will mostly be cooler. I am also worried about rains this year for May long weekend 🙂
I guess winter is going to be cold. Can we consider in June weekend? In June probably we will get more choice for camp site too.
Ya July long weekend should be great, if that’s an option instead of may weekend
Documenting here for reference purposes. SLY park recreation area at Jenkinson lake seems beautiful with lake, river, waterfall and greenery. Vishal and Urvi Goshar visited and recommend it.
